PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT
Acupuncture needles will be placed in your arms and lower legs, not only in the location of your pain. Shorts, sports bras, and tank tops are good clothing options for treatment. Feel free to bring a change of clothing to the office.
A light meal or snack that includes some protein, 1 to 2 hours before treatment, is ideal. Some people experience lightheadedness when receiving acupuncture on an empty stomach, while being too full makes for an uncomfortable treatment.
Try to avoid caffeine for at least 2 hours prior to your acupuncture treatment. Caffeine is a stimulant and may inhibit the relaxation process.
Alcohol has a numbing affect, impairs the senses, and masks symptoms. White Lotus does not treat anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you arrive to your appointment under the influence of alcohol or drugs , you will not be treated and you will be charged for the visit.
Don't just squeeze acupuncture into your day, plan for it. If possible, schedule your acupuncture session so that you have a bit of free time prior to, but primarily after, your session. This is not a hard and fast rule, but a recommendation so as to maximize the therapeutic benefits of acupuncture. Acupuncture is great for unwinding so a session after work, or a stressful day, is ideal. If you are mindful with your scheduling you can make the most out of your acupuncture session.
Reflect Upon the Past
Prior to your appointment, spend some time reflecting upon your medical history, such as surgeries, accidents, long-term illnesses, etc. Also make note of any medications you are taking currently, or have taken in the past, such as birth control. Your entire medical history is relevant, no detail is too small to mention.
When you receive your forms, please read them thoroughly and complete them to the best of your ability. I cannot stress enough that you give yourself plenty of time to fill out the forms, as they are detailed. Fill them out at home, as you will not have time to do them in the office.
Turn Off Your Cellphone
Last but not least, please silence your cell phone. Ringing phones and incoming texts are intrusive and jarring to anyone in a relaxed state, so please be considerate and remember to silence your cell phone. This is for your own peace of mind and therapeutic benefit.
